Big Walk Tool and Gear Locations: All 96 in 21 Types

The Island has 96 tool markers in 21 types, and five of those tools exist exactly once on the whole island.

Game build 6000.3.17f1

Layers this guide uses

There are 96 tools marked on The Island, split into 21 types. Five of those types have exactly one marker on the whole map: the Ball, the Compass, the Coordinate reader, the Cue card and the Folding map. Everything else has between two and eleven copies. Open the Gear layer and untick everything except the type you want, which is how 96 markers become the six Backpacks you were actually looking for.

The five tools that exist only once

ToolCoordinate reader shows

Cue card3516, 1490
Folding map3572, 1457
Compass3573, 1458
Coordinate reader3971, 1929

Four of the five sit close together in the middle of the island. The Folding map and the Compass are at the same spot, and the Ball and the Cue card are a short walk away on either side. Centre the gear layer on that area and you can see all four in one view.

The Coordinate reader is the exception. It is off in the south east, beside a bank of gourd stands, a long way from the other four. If your group loses track of it, that is the only place the map can send you.

Single copies change how a group splits up, because only one person can hold each of them. Everybody else is navigating on what that person reads out, so it helps if the Folding map and the Compass end up in the same pair of hands rather than in two different groups heading opposite ways.

The second column is the one people miss. Six Kettles sound like six chances to find one, but all six are at the same place, at 3228, 1827 near the north coast. All three Cowbells are together too, at 3506, 1370. Three of the seven Laser pointers are at the same spot as the Folding map.

Flashlight is the type worth remembering under two names. The layer calls it Flashlight because the game does, and it is the torch you want before the light goes.

Radios are at the broadcast stations

Seven of the nine Radio markers sit at the island’s seven broadcast stations, one at each. That one to one match is why radios and broadcast stations together is a better view than either layer on its own.

The two Radios that are not at a broadcast station are worth the walk on their own account. One is in the middle of the island near the Folding map. The other is at 3600, 1730, on the highest ground the map covers, with a challenge marker and a pair of Binoculars at the same point.

Clocks are at the train stations

All six Clock markers are at train stations, and six of the seven stations have one. Switch on clocks and train stations together and the gap is easy to spot: the station at 3481, 1830 in the north is the one without.

If you are waiting for the train and cannot see a clock, you are probably at that station.

The kit waiting at every tower

The four banks of five gourd stands, the ones whose size matches what each coloured tower asks for, all carry the same set of tools. Every one of them has Binoculars, a Laser pointer, Goggles and a Flashlight marked within sight of the stands. One of the four, at 3937, 1901, also has the Coordinate reader nearby.

Gear and stands on the same map shows the pattern across all four sites at once. It is a reason to walk up to a tower with your hands free rather than carrying a set of tools that is already waiting there.

How to use the backpack and the belt

Carrying room is the thing groups run short of first. There are 6 Backpacks and 5 Hip packs on the map, and they are spread out rather than piled in one place.

3755, 13783755, 1873
4268, 17734346, 2054
4346, 2053

The last row of each column is the same place. A Backpack and a Hip pack are marked together at 4346, 2053 in the far south east, and that is the only point on the island where the two appear side by side. Everywhere else you have to make two trips.

Finding one type on the map

The fastest route to a single tool is the layer panel rather than a long address. Open the Gear layer, then untick the types you do not care about. The map redraws to just the ones left, the counter tells you how many that is, and the address bar updates so you can send that exact view to whoever is doing the fetching.

Press Mark on a tool once somebody in the group is carrying it. Hide marked then clears it off, which matters most for Flashlights and Walkie-talkies, where eleven and eight markers turn into visual noise once your group already has enough of them.

For the rare types the marks are worth keeping for a different reason. When somebody asks where the Ball went, the map still shows the one place it started.
