Big Walk Map Room: Map and Compass Location

Unlock the Red Tower first, cut its key along the marked trail, then enter the blue Map Room below it for the Folding map and Compass.

Layers this guide uses

Open the Map Room area with Gear, Keys and Challenges visible. The blue building sits downhill from the Red Tower.

Where the Map Room is

Look for the cone-shaped Red Tower near the middle of the island. The Map Room is not at the top with the five reward slots. It is down the hill in the blue structure below the tower, close to the area where each session begins.

The Gear layer places the Folding map and Compass at the same spot. The room also contains three Laser pointers. If you have reached the blue building and it is still locked, your group has not completed the Red Tower key route yet.

The tower order and keys guide explains why Red is the useful first tower. Unlocking it early gives every later trip a shared reference.

How to unlock it

The Red Tower sequence has three parts:

  1. Solve enough nearby challenges to collect five red puzzle rewards.
  2. Place all five rewards in the slots at the top of the Red Tower and take the key that appears.
  3. Carry the key through its cutting stations. After each cut, follow the arrow toward the next station, then use the finished key at the Map Room.

Keep the key with the group until it reaches every cutter and the Map Room lock.

Switch on Keys and Challenges together if the group has lost the route. The map shows the nearby challenge markers and key infrastructure without filling the screen with every gourd and tool.

What is inside

The wall display gives you an overhead model of the island. Completed challenge pieces carry blue flags, so the room also works as a rough progress check.

The portable Folding map is in a corner of the room, with the Compass next to it. LootMap has one starting marker for each tool in this room. Decide who carries them before the group splits, since sending the map east and the Compass west defeats the point of unlocking both.

The Folding map does not place a live “you are here” mark on the paper. You still need landmarks, a Compass bearing or the Coordinate reader to work out where you are.

How to read the map grid

The numbers down one axis grow as you travel south, and the numbers across the other grow as you travel east. Together, the two axes narrow a clue from a grid square to one point inside it.

For a worked example and the hidden-button route, use the coordinate puzzle guide.

LootMap is useful before the room opens because it uses the same island coordinates. Open a marker, compare its numbers with the clue, and share the filtered address with the rest of the group.

Map Room FAQ

Does the Big Walk map show where I am?

No. The Folding map shows the island and its grid, but it does not track the player holding it. Use landmarks, the Compass or the Coordinate reader to fix your position.

Can I get the map without doing the Red Tower?

No. The room stays locked until the Red Tower produces its key and your group finishes cutting that key.

Is the Folding map the same as the wall map?

No. The wall display stays in the Map Room. The Folding map is a portable tool you can pick up and carry.
