Elden Ring Bosses in Order: Route and Remembrance Map

A practical main route orders required milestones without pretending Elden Ring has one fixed boss sequence, then separates optional and DLC encounters.

Layers this guide uses

Elden Ring does not have one mandatory boss order. You need enough major progress to enter Leyndell, but several Great Rune paths and many Remembrance fights are optional. The route below is a practical first-playthrough sequence, not a claim that every listed encounter is required.

The map records 164 boss placements in the Lands Between and 38 in the Realm of Shadow. The category includes field, dungeon, and major encounters, so its count is larger than the number of Remembrances.

Early game: Limgrave to Liurnia

Stormveil is the clearest opening route. Margit guards the approach, and Godrick is the shardbearer at the end of the castle. Both can be delayed while you explore Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula for levels, flask upgrades, weapons, and upgrade materials.

After Stormveil, move through Liurnia toward the Academy of Raya Lucaria. The Red Wolf of Radagon and Rennala form the main academy sequence. Rennala’s Great Rune also unlocks rebirth, which makes this route useful even when it is not your only route toward Leyndell.

Open Bosses with Sites of Grace and search the boss name. Nearby graces show the correct approach better than a straight line across the map.

Great Rune choices before Leyndell

Starscourge Radahn in Caelid and Rykard at Volcano Manor are major optional shardbearer routes. You do not need to defeat every shardbearer before entering the capital. Choose the route that matches your build and quest progress, then return for the others later.

Radahn also changes access to part of the underground world. If that route is your next goal, pan below the surface map to Nokron after the fight.

Capital, Mountaintops, and endgame

Once Leyndell is available, the main sequence moves through the capital to Morgott. The Mountaintops of the Giants then lead toward the Fire Giant and the Forge. Crumbling Farum Azula follows, with the Godskin Duo and Maliketh on the route.

The final stretch in Leyndell, Ashen Capital proceeds through Gideon Ofnir, Godfrey and Hoarah Loux, then Radagon and the Elden Beast. Some preceding encounters can vary with access and exploration, but this is a useful backbone for checking story progress.

Use search for one exact name rather than keeping all 164 boss placements visible at close zoom. Mark a fight found after completing it so optional dungeon bosses do not mix with unfinished story milestones.

Optional Remembrance routes

Malenia, Mohg, Dragonlord Placidusax, the Regal Ancestor Spirit, Astel, Fortissax, and other Remembrance encounters sit on optional or quest-dependent routes. A Remembrance item can also appear under Key Items, so search the boss’s name when you want the arena rather than the reward item.

Treat each optional route as its own checklist:

  • Pan below the surface map for Mohgwyn Palace, Deeproot Depths, Nokron, and other cavern routes.
  • Add Dungeons when the boss is at the end of a cave, catacomb, or tunnel.
  • Keep Sites of Grace visible to understand which side of a legacy dungeon the arena belongs to.
  • Copy the selected marker link before leaving the map.

Realm of Shadow bosses

The DLC has 38 boss placements. Open the Realm of Shadow boss map and keep its progress separate from the base game. Shadow of the Erdtree has its own main route, optional dungeons, field encounters, and late-game branches.

Scadutree Blessing affects the DLC’s difficulty curve, so add Shadow Realm Blessings when a fight feels ahead of your current exploration. The map can show the placements; it does not prescribe a build or a mandatory order for optional fights.
