Elden Ring Smithing Stone and Bell Bearing Locations
Upgrade Materials and Bell Bearings provide separate layers for 575 material placements and 34 shop-unlock records across both worlds.
Layers this guide uses
- The Lands Between
- Upgrade Materials407
- Bell Bearings26
- Dungeons & Entrances111
- Realm of Shadow
- Upgrade Materials168
- Bell Bearings8
- Dungeons & Entrances24
The map contains 575 Upgrade Material placements and 34 Bell Bearing placements across both worlds. The Lands Between upgrade view holds 407 material and 26 Bell Bearing records. The Realm of Shadow view adds 168 materials and eight Bell Bearings.
These layers answer different questions. Upgrade Materials shows fixed material placements recorded by the map. Bell Bearings shows items that can expand shop inventory after being turned in. A shop unlock is not the same thing as a loose stone pickup.
Search the full stone name and tier
Use the in-game name, including its bracketed tier when applicable. Smithing Stone, Somber Smithing Stone, Grave Glovewort, and Ghost Glovewort follow different upgrade paths. A search without the tier can return many valid records.
Select one result, check its category and map, then inspect the approach. The placement count does not describe how many stones a pickup yields, whether an enemy can drop more, or how much a merchant can sell.
Use tunnels as route context
Tunnels are useful material routes, but the material marker and tunnel entrance are separate records. Open Upgrade Materials with Dungeons when a cluster appears inside a mine.
Start from the dungeon entrance, not the closest point on the outside map. Lifts, ledges, and vertical shafts make a straight line misleading. Once inside, treat the map points as a checklist rather than a complete drawing of every interior corridor.
Pan below the surface map for material placements in Siofra, Ainsel, Nokron, Nokstella, Deeproot Depths, the Lake of Rot, and Mohgwyn Palace. A nearby surface pin does not explain access to those areas.
Bell Bearings and shop unlocks
Open the Bell Bearings layer alone when the goal is renewable purchasing rather than one fixed pickup. Search the complete bearing name because Smithing-Stone, Somberstone, Glovewort, and merchant bearings have different purposes.
The marker identifies the bearing’s placement or relevant record. You still need to obtain it in the game and complete any required handoff before the associated stock is available. Quest state or an enemy encounter can affect access.
Open Bell Bearings with Sites of Grace for a cleaner travel plan than displaying all 407 base-game material placements.
Build a tier-by-tier checklist
- Search the exact material and tier your weapon or summon needs.
- Choose one reachable region rather than the closest coordinate.
- Add Dungeons only if the result lies in a tunnel or interior.
- Mark the placement found after collecting it.
- Use the faded found pins to distinguish completed stops, then search the next tier.
- Check Bell Bearings separately when fixed pickups are exhausted.
This keeps early tiers from hiding late-game materials and prevents normal and Somber paths from being mixed.
Realm of Shadow upgrades
The DLC’s 168 Upgrade Material placements remain separate from Shadow Realm Blessings. Use DLC Upgrade Materials for weapon and summon materials. Use Shadow Realm Blessings for Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes.
For a final audit, keep the two worlds and the two upgrade systems separate. Stable marker IDs preserve checklist state even when item names repeat.
